Newbury Town Council appoints new chief executive

Hugh Peacocke will take on the role on July 6.

NEWBURY Town Council has confirmed the appointment of its new chief executive officer.

Hugh Peacocke, who is currently in a senior role at Coventry City Council, will take on the role on July 6.

The position has been vacant since the council's former CEO, Graham Hunt, resigned in October 2014 following a period of sick leave.

The council's services manager, Granville Taylor, has been the acting CEO since Mr Hunt's departure.

Speaking about the appointment, council leader Julian Swift-Hook said: "Hugh is very experienced in local government in a number of different capacities. We are looking forward to him joining Newbury Town Council and have every confidence that he can make a significant contribution going forward."

Mr Peacocke's appointment was announced at a Newbury Town Council Policy and Resources meeting on Monday April 27.
