Newbury town councillor to cycle 500 miles for mayors fundraising campaign with Speakability
Newbury councillor, Martin Colston, will cycling 500 miles in six days this week to raise £500 for charity Speakability.
The charity was chosen by Newbury Mayor, Billy Drummond (Lib Dem, Newbury Greenham) as a part of his ‘One in 100’ fundraising campaign.
Leader of the council, Mr Colston, (Lib Dem, West Fields) is planning to start his cycle in Inverness on September, 16 all the way through John O’Groats, Durness and then Applecross before heading east back to Inverness.
He said: “My colleague Billy Drummond, the current Mayor of Newbury, has recovered from two strokes and both times was greatly helped in his recovery by Speakability.
“Speakability works with stroke victims to help them recover their powers of speech.”
The mayors campaign aims to raise £10,000 by getting 100 local people to raise £100 each.
Mr Colston added: “I would like to raise at least £500 for this very worthwhile cause and I’m excited to be a part of the 100 people raising funds for it.”
