Newbury Weekly News judged runner up in national award
The newspaper’s accolade was announced at last week’s prestigious Regional Press Awards 2012 – organised by the Society of Editors and held as part of Local Newspaper Week – in the category to find the ‘Best Weekly Newspaper with a circulation of more than 20,000 copies’.
Of all the newspapers countrywide entered in this particular category, the Newbury Weekly News had already been chosen by a panel of industry professionals to be one of the five finalists.
It then went on to be named runner-up at the annual lunch hosted by The Newspaper Society and held in London last Friday.
The newspaper was highly commended by the judges for “its comprehensive depth of local news coverage and feature content”.
NWN chairman Jeremy Willis said this week: “Congratulations are due to everyone who is involved in making this one of the best local newspapers in the country and, most importantly, for our readers and advertisers in West Berkshire.”
