Newbury Weekly News shortlisted for best weekly newspaper in the UK at the newsawards 2021
The Newbury Weekly News has been shortlisted for UK weekly newspaper of the year in the 2021 newsawards.
The paper will be up against the Cambridge Independent, Ham & High, Hereford Times, Kent Messenger, Lynn News, Stratford Herald and The National, Wales, at the black tie awards ceremony at the Royal Lancaster in London on November 11.
NWN editor Andy Murrill said: "We are delighted to have once again been shortlisted for one of the most prestigious awards in local newspapers.
"We have now been shortlisted in both the major UK newspaper awards this year, which is a great accolade from our industry peers.
"Thanks to everyone who has been a part of this in what has been such a very difficult year.
"My team have responded magnificently to the challenges we have faced and, in addition to producing a much-loved newspaper each week, we have built up a huge and highly-engaged audience online.
"We now attract more than a million page views on newburytoday each month and we have the largest social media following of any local newspaper in Berkshire.
"Having such a large and engaged local digital audience means the NWN can look to the future with optimism and purpose.
"The only value we have is the value the public gives us, and we will continue to strive to provide you with the best local news and information service we possibly can in the times ahead."
