Newbury woman on collision course with Tesco
A woman's car was hit by a Tesco delivery van and left damaged beyond repair.
Newbury resident Rahima Laskar, 48, told the Newbury Weekly News that the delivery van hit her car while it was parked on her driveway on the evening of Friday, October 21.
Mrs Laskar claims the driver was forthcoming with an apology and assured her the company would resolve the situation. No one is believed to have witnessed the incident.
Tesco's insurance provider removed the damaged car and sent a replacement hire vehicle to Mrs Laskar on the following Monday.
Tesco then offered Mrs Laskar £1,500 in compensation, but she disputed this figure, saying her car was valued significantly higher and provided evidence to support this to the company.
Tesco responded by raising the compensation sum to £1,930, said Mrs Laskar, who is still unsatisfied and sees pursuing compensation through the small claims court as her only remaining course of action.
A Tesco spokesperson said: "We always expect careful driving from our delivery team on the road, but unfortunately accidents do occasionally happen and we're very sorry to hear about Mrs Laskar’s experience.
"We are in the process of resolving this claim with Mrs Laskar now."
But Mrs Laskar says losing her vehicle continues to impact daily life for her and her family.
"I am a Muslim and have to go to Reading to buy Halal food, as there is nothing in Newbury for me", she said. "I cannot do that now."
