One of the UK’s best young youth theatres premiere in Newbury before Edinburgh Fringe
ON Thursday, July 27 (7.30pm), Newbury Youth Theatre return to Arlington Arts with Here be Dragons, a brand new devised play about looking for monsters and finding a whole lot more!
Join them on an adventure through fog, fables, bogs and bogles, seeking out mythical beasts lurking in the murky corners of the UK.
The award-winning NYT have dived in unchartered waters and unearthed some lesser-known myths and legends from Britain and beyond. Exploring identity and belonging, they weave traditional tales and contemporary life with touches of simple magic.
Inspired by the creatures drawn on medieval maps, Here be Dragons captures the fear of the unknown, of setting out on an adventure where you will discover as much about yourself, as you do new territory.
Since their inception over 35 years ago, the award-winning young company have explored exciting new ways to tell stories through ensemble techniques, playfulness and music and drama.
They have always operated on the principle that high-quality theatre can be made collaboratively with young people. They aim to harness the creativity of the workshop experience, developing themes and ideas through a variety of performance styles and techniques.
For more than 20 years they have toured a production to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where they have enjoyed many four and five star reviews, more recently receiving two significant awards, being highly rated over hundreds of professional theatre makers from all over the world.
Through these experiences they have become known as one of the best young companies in the UK.
They will return to Edinburgh this year, opening on Monday, August 7, following this preview performance in their home town.
