Newbury's knitters unite in global knit-in
Newbury’s 2014 World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKNIP), took place outside the Corn Exchange, in the Market Place.
The Corn Exchange’s Stitch & Chat group, was led by local textile artist Mandi Bainbridge, who gave advice, with wool and needles provided, and was open to all, including the inexperienced, revived with a free hot drink from the establishment’s Coffee House.
Crafters could take along any home knitting, crochet or textile projects, to add to the woolly creations, which last year included a knitted chair - given pride of place in the Balcony Bar at the Corn Exchange.
The World Wide Knit in Public Day, (WWKIP), was started in 2005 by American, Danielle Landes, with the aim of demonstrating knitting as a community activity and has become the largest knitter run activity in the world.
Knitted items created during the day were put on display as part of the Homegrown exhibition at New Greenham Arts, open until Thursday July 17.
