Newbury's U3A welcomes 700th member
Champers and flowers mark occasion
Newbury's University of the Third Age (U3A) recently welcomed its 700th member.
The group welcomed 700th member, Lynette Puttick, and at its showcase event, held at St Nicolas church last Thursday (April 23).
Chairman of the Newbury U3A branch, Derek Child and national U3A representative, Wendy Tuppenny, presented Ms Puttick with a bottle of champagne and basket of flowers, to mark the occasion.
Over 60 interest groups were on hand to explain their roles in this rapidly growing self help organisation, to both new and existing members.
The University of the Third Age (U3A) provides life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities for retired and semi-retired people, aged over 50, who learn together, for its own reward, rather than to obtain qualifications. Events range from art, theatre and travel, to golf and yoga.
