Newbury's U3A welcomes 700th member
Champers and flowers mark occasion
Newbury's University of the Third Age (U3A) welcomed its 700th member, Lynette Puttick, at its showcase event held at St Nicolas’ Church on April 23.
The chairman of the branch, Derek Child, and national U3A representative Wendy Tuppenny presented Ms Puttick with a bottle of Champagne and basket of flowers to mark the occasion.
More than 60 interest groups were on hand to explain their roles in this rapidly-growing self-help organisation, to both new and existing members.
U3A provides opportunities for retired and semi-retired people, aged over 50, who learn together, for its own reward, rather than to obtain qualifications. Events range from art, theatre and travel, to golf and yoga.
