MOST nine-year-olds wouldn’t be jumping for joy when their birthday comes and goes without receiving any presents, but St Gabriel’s pupil Rysa Saujani has decided to forgo gifts to raise money for charity.
Rysa, of Stoney Lane, Ashmore Green, will be nine on Monday and she has asked friends and relatives to give her cash tokens, to be donated to the NSPCC and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London.
Her mother, Fahiman Saujani, said that her daughter had been inspired after watching the television coverage of Red Nose Day in March.
“She said ‘I would like to give to charity’ and I said ‘I think that’s a wonderful idea,’” said Mrs Saujani.
“It’s a great way to encourage kids regarding the importance of giving rather than receiving,” she said, adding that she hoped it would start a chain reaction among her daughter’s peer group.
