Dust sets fire alarm off in false alarm

Customers and staff at Next, in Newbury Retail Park were evacuated this afternoon (Wed), after dust set the fire alarm off.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) spokeswoman, Ellie Gray, said one fire engine from Newbury and a second from Hungerford were called to the store at 12.43pm, however the call proved to be a false alarm.

A spokeswoman for the store confirmed customers and staff had been evacuated, in line with the company's fire safety procedures, adding dust had set the fire alarm off.

Firefighters left the scene at 1.09pm
