NHS stats say 21 mental health patients died after incidents in Berkshire health care trust centres




NHS patient safety incident reports show that last year there were 12,295 cases by the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

Seven deaths and two cases of severe harm which resulted in permanent or long-term harm are included in the figure.

And 1,448 patient accidents were reported.

In the mental health sector at the Berkshire Healthcare NHS Trust 7,647 incidents were reported, resulting in 21 deaths.

There were 12 severe cases.

And 1,157 moderate incidents were reported – which means any unexpected or unintended incident that required further treatment or possible surgery.

Of the incidents reported, there were 32 cases of patient abuse by staff or a third party and there were 182 cases of disruptive or aggressive behaviour.

Patient accident numbers in the mental health sector for the trust stood at 601, with 1,336 cases of self harming reported.
