No further discoveries in police search of Ramsbury after boots and shotgun pulled from pond
The searches, which included the use of dog units trained in searching for human remains, specialist dive teams and a fingerprint search of the area, were made following the discovery of a pair of boots, believed to be those worn by Miss O’Callaghan on the night she was murdered, and a shotgun were retrieved from a pond in Hilldrop Lane.
The discoveries were made on Wednesday and Friday.
Miss O’Callaghan was last seen leaving Suju nightclub in Swindon at 2.52am on Saturday, March 19, 2011 and her body was found near Uffington White Horse five days later.
On Friday, det chief insp Sean Memory, who is leading the investigation, said he hoped the searches would discover other items known to be in Miss O’Callaghan’s possession on the night she went missing but are yet to be found, including her mobile phone, handbag and jewellery, as well as the murder weapon - a knife.
In October 2012, Swindon taxi driver Christopher Halliwell, who at the time of Miss O’Callaghan’s death lived in Ashbury Avenue, pleaded guilty to her murder.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of 25 years, when he appeared before Bristol Crown Court.
He was not tried for a second murder after leading police to Becky Godden's buried body. He was not cautioned by investigating officer Det Supt Steve Fulcher before he led police to the body in Gloucestershire.
