No more tears over Teddy for Ellie

There is a happy ending for Ellie Smith, who lost her beloved cuddly toy on a recent train trip

THERE are no more tears at bedtime for overjoyed Ellie Smith now that Teddy is safe and sound.

Last week the search for the four-year-old's lost cuddly toy went nationwide after Newburytoday.co.uk reported on her heartache.

Ellie, who lives in Newbury, lost her beloved stuffed bear on a train trip between Newbury and Hungerford on Sunday, August 14.

Her mother, Emma Cullum-Sharpe, said last week: “She has had Teddy since she was five months old and she's devastated.

"He went everywhere with her. They were inseparable and there are tears at bedtime each night now."

Her family set up a page on social networking site Facebook called 'Help Find Teddy' and the story was also picked up by several celebrities, including comedian Eddie Izzard, comedienne Jenny Eclair, actor Chris Rankin - Percy Weasley in the Harry Potter films - and entrepreneur Hilary Devey from television's Dragons Den.

All of them spread the news online via Twitter but no one came forward to say Teddy had been found.

The cuddly toy was a Middlesbrough Football Club mascot and was discontinued three years ago.

Ms Cullum-Sharpe said: “The Middlesbrough players also appealed for help and a fan came forward to say his child had an identical bear which his child had grown out of. He gave it to Ellie and we told her that Teddy has been on holiday. She has been carrying him around ever since, all smiles.”

Ms Cullum-Sharpe thanked all those who had helped search for Teddy and to spread the word.
