No new discoveries in search of drained Ramsbury pond
Police searches of the area began on May 14 after the first of the pair was found in the pond in Hilldrop Lane. The second was found on Friday, May 16, followed hours later by a single barrelled shotgun.
The boots are believed to be those worn by Sian O’Callaghan on the night she was murdered, after disappearing from Suju nightclub, Swindon, on March 19, 2011.
Fingerprint searches were conducted by police and cadaver dogs, trained in tracing human remains, were also present in the area.
Last Wednesday around 60 pieces of material, some of which are believed to be items of women’s clothing, were discovered buried beneath a few inches of mud around 100 yards from the pond.
A chunky knit cardigan was also found nearby. Wiltshire Police have said they are satisfied that the clothing did not belong to Miss O’Callaghan.
Specialist teams drained the pond last week to allow searches of the silt at the bottom to be carried out but nothing further has been found.
The searches are expected to conclude at the end of the week.
Wiltshire Police spokeswoman Helen Kennedy said: “All of the items found have been sent for forensic analysis. This is likely to take several weeks.
“Detectives are maintaining an open mind as to why the items have been found at the pond and await the results of the forensic investigation.”
In October 2012, Swindon taxi driver Christopher Halliwell, of Ashbury Avenue, pleaded guilty to her murder.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of 25 years.
He was not tried for a second murder after leading police to Rebecca Godden’s buried body. He was not cautioned by investigating officer Det Supt Steve Fulcher before he led police to the body in Gloucestershire.
