'No third party involved' in woman and child's train death

Earlier this morning, a British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman,Peter O’Connor, said they were not ruling out an element of ‘foul play’ and said the incident was being treated as suspicious.
The incident occurred at around 9.45am a full investigation into the cause has been launched.
A number of West Berkshire residents were on the train at the time - the 08.41 from Bedwyn to London - with several having boarded at Newbury Station at around 9am.
Among them was Roger Davies, who said: “It was just going through Slough and there was a really loud bang...the driver put on the emergency brakes.
“The driver very quickly came out and walked down the train, he said ‘I’m very sorry’, he was quite shaken up.
“He said ‘I’m really sorry for the delay, we are just looking to get an update from the signal man and we will be moving’.
“He was clearly shaken.
“Nobody has given us any information. We all worked it out from reading the news sites.
“It was quite a shock. It was quite a loud bang and nobody knew at the time what it was.”
The woman and child were both pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance crews.
The train was declared a crime scene and passengers were required to remain on board. Ambulance staff handed out bottles of water and assisted elderly passengers and others on board the train.
It was only recently given permission to leave the station and continue its journey to London.
Two of the four lines between Reading and London have now been reopened and the two remaining are expected to be open by 2pm.
Slough Station remains closed while investigations continue.
