No To Sandleford march this morning
Organisers expect hundreds of protesters to join the walk today (Sunday)
SANDLEFORD Park will be the location of another protest walk this morning against a proposed 2,000 homes development at the site.
Outline plans have been drafted to build 2,000 homes on Sandleford, a greenfield site that runs parallel to Monks Lane down to the River Enborne.
The plans make up part of West Berkshire Council's proposed new core strategy, a key document prepared by the planning authority which has identified a need to build 10,500 homes in the district by 2026.
However, the proposals have been met with anger at many local residents, who believe the development would ruin a site of natural beauty.
The ‘No To Sandleford' protest group held its first walk on December 4 with residents from nearby streets and many other areas of Newbury turning out to show their support.
Campaigners say more protesters are expected to join today's walk, which is scheduled to start at Warren Road at 11.30am.
