Nominate a Newbury hero for a civic award
The town council is looking to celebrate the unsung heroes of Newbury.
The Newbury Town Civic Awards have been officially launched and seek to honour volunteers and those who make a difference in the community.
This year, Newbury Town Council will be celebrating nominees in four categories of awards.
- The Newbury Town Civic Award
- The Newbury Town Young Persons Civic Award
- The Newbury Town Business Civic Award
- The Newbury Town Environmental Contribution Civic Award
The council is looking to recognise anyone who has made a difference, whether it be big or small.
It said small gestures like shopping, collecting prescriptions or cutting the grass are often overlooked but they are just as important as running support groups, fundraising or playing an active role in climate change.
It said it would also love to hear about the help delivered locally to support Ukrainian Refugees.
Mayor of Newbury Gary Norman said: “I’m very excited to launch the Civic Awards this year.
“There has been some amazing voluntary work taking place in Newbury over the last year, which deserves to be recognised.
“I encourage everyone to think about the people in their lives who have gone the extra mile this year and to consider nominating them for a Civic Award.”
Last year, awards were given to Sukey Russell-Hayward for her voluntary support network for those living in West Fields, 13-year-old Soorya Anbumurasoli for his voluntary contribution in supporting the local cricket community and Tony Hammond for leading the Growing Newbury Green initiative for the last decade.
The Globe Pub won a Business Civic Award for offering its space for free to may local organisations and charities.
Nomination forms are available for collection from Newbury Town Hall, can be completed online or printed off from the Newbury Town Council website.
Paper copies of the forms are also available to collect from the Town Hall or can be posted on request.
The closing date for nominations to be received is February 26 (Sunday) with an awards presentation taking place on March 15 (Wednesday).
