Nominate a superstar for this year’s Thatcham Town Council Community Awards

Do you know of anybody or group who has done something amazing in Thatcham?

They could be crowned as a Thatcham superstar.

Every year, the town council seeks nominations from members of the public recognising the efforts of individuals and organisations in the community.

If an individual, charity, group or business meets the nominee criteria they will be considered by a panel of councillors.

Winners will be invited by the mayor of Thatcham Mark Lillycrop to receive their award and formal thanks.

Mr Lillycrop said: “Since becoming mayor I’ve realised just how many dedicated community groups and volunteers we have in and around Thatcham, generously giving their time and enthusiasm to make the town a better and more caring place.

“The Community Awards provide a great opportunity to highlight some of their achievements, and I’m really looking forward to reading the nominations.”

Thatcham Town Council said the community awards use an ‘open’ nomination scheme.

This means that anyone can make a nomination providing the nominee meets the criteria for their category.

For all awards, the recipient does not have to live or be based in the parish of Thatcham.

But it will need to be demonstrated that the majority of the contribution for which they are being nominated, occurs within the parish or directly benefits Thatcham residents.

There are four categories this year.

The first is the community contributor award which can go to any individual, group or organisation who has done something to benefit the town.

This could be someone who has consistently given an outstanding service for the wellbeing of the community.

They should have made an outstanding and positive contribution to the local community and demonstrated exceptional community spirit and civic responsibility.

The environmental champion award is open to anyone who has made a positive environmental contribution to Thatcham.

This could be through volunteering activities or recycling initiatives.

They may be involved in wildlife or nature projects, green initiatives, fundraising or raising awareness.

The inspiring young person award is open to any person under the age of 25 who has made an outstanding contribution to their community.

But this award can also go to a young person for personal achievements or to anyone who has represented Thatcham in some way.

The final award is the lifetime achievement award which seeks to recognise someone who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment either in an unpaid role.

They also could have been involved in a project or other initiative or delivered long-lasting benefit to the community.

Previous community award winners can be considered.

Nomination forms can be found on the town council’s website at https://rb.gy/s6z5zs

The full criteria for categories can also be found online.

Nominations must be received at the town council’s offices by noon on Thursday, March 21.
