Nominate your Newbury hero for a civic award

The awards will be launched at tonight’s full town council meeting in Newbury Town Hall

THE scheme that celebrates Newbury's unsung heroes will be launched at the town hall tonight (Monday).

The civic award scheme has run since 1996 and is designed to mark the exceptional contribution individuals make to their communities on a voluntary basis.

Newbury Town Council's civic manager, the coordinator of the scheme, Joyce Lewis, said: “Now is the time for people to begin to nominate others in the community who are doing exceptional voluntary service.

“The idea behind the civic awards is to raise the profile of the people who work in a voluntary capacity in our community and to give something back to them.

The awards will be launched at tonight's full town council meeting, which is scheduled to be held at Newbury Town Hall with the mayor of Newbury, Jeff Beck, expected to be chairman.

Nomination forms are available from Newbury Town Council in the town hall, Market Place, Newbury.
