North West Hampshire MP visits Hannington mast

Sir George said that even though the mast could be seen from all over his constituency, he had never visited it before.
He said: “The site is much bigger than one would think, with a large number of buildings, some of them still owned by the government, as the site was of strategic value in the Second World War.”
He said that he had been impressed by the professionalism and commitment of all the technicians he had met, which made him confident that this month’s switchover would go well.
“They have back-up for almost every conceivable eventuality,” said Sir George, adding that additional buildings had been set up at the site, to accommodate the new equipment, which took up less space than the old equipment it replaced, most of which could be recycled.
“I was impressed by all the back-up arrangements, in order to ensure that transmission of the television channels is not interrupted by any technical failure,” he added.
The mast is run by telecommunications company Arqiva.
