Newbury Weekly News February 1952: Local advertisements and notices from yesteryear
Old newspapers don't just provide reports of the news stories of the day, but also an impression of the era through the ads and notices.
On Sunday, February 6, the Queen will have been on the throne for 70 years and the whole country will be invited to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee with a four day UK bank holiday weekend in June.
This week's Newbury Weekly News (February 3) carries a four page supplement looking back at how the paper covered the death and funeral of King George VI and the Queen's accession to the throne in February 1952.
While looking through the 1952 editions, we spotted some old ads and announcements from some companies and organisations, some of which are still in Newbury today and some that have long gone.
