Thanksgiving service for the late Queen Elizabeth II to be held in Newbury's St Nicolas Church
A service of thanksgiving for the late Queen Elizabeth II will be held in Newbury.
It will reflect Her Majesty’s connection to West Berkshire and fondness for horse racing and give thanks for her lifetime of service to the country and its people.
The service will take place at St Nicolas Church at 7pm on Friday, November 4.
Among the 500 or so guests will be district councillors and town and parish councillors representing communities across West Berkshire, and local MPs.
The service will be led by the Reverend Will Hunter Smart, rector of St Nicolas Church.
Local residents are also invited to attend the service but must book online in advance.
Tickets are available until Monday, October 31, on a first come, first served basis and can be booked at https://booking.westberks.gov.uk/?event_id=1488779&companyId=37021.
The service will be streamed online on the St Nicolas Church YouTube channel.
Speaking ahead of the service, West Berkshire Council chairman Rick Jones said: “Last month we saw an outpouring of love and respect for the Queen following the news of her death.
“Nationally and locally communities came together to mourn her passing and now it’s time to celebrate a life well lived and to say thank you for her lifetime of service.”
The service will conclude with a retiring collection to support The Good Exchange and the help it provides for residents facing financial hardship due to the rising cost of living.
