Nursery makes enquiries about Greenham House
Forbury Gardens Day Nursery has put in an application to West Berkshire Council, enquiring whether change of use permission is needed to open a day nursery at Greenham House in Greenham Road.
The Grade II-listed building, owned by the district council, is currently empty but was previously used as a day care centre for children, with permission granted by the now defunct Newbury District Council in 1976.
It is not yet clear whether the nursery intends to buy the building, but last year it was put on a list of council assets to be sold off by 2013.
Newbury Town Council leader Julian Swift-Hook (Lib Dem, Greenham) said: “It’s a lovely old building and it is a shame that it has been boarded up for so long.
“I'm happy to see the building brought back into worthwhile community use.”
