THE Newbury Weekly News has been shortlisted as UK Weekly Newspaper of the Year (above 50,000 total monthly reach) at the 2020 Society of Editors Regional Press Awards.

The NWN is up against the Bucks Free Press Kent Messenger, Kentish Gazette, Reading Chronicle and Warrington Guardian for the prestigious award.

NWN chief reporter John Garvey has been shortlisted as Weekly Reporter of the Year at the same awards.

Editor Andy Murrill said: “We won the title two years ago and were runner up last year so it’s great to know that our peers in the industry rate us at the very top level of local journalism.

"After such a tough year this is a fantastic reward for our brilliant team.

“And we’re all chuffed that John has been recognised for his talent."

The winners will be announced on September 16.
