Objections to plans for nursery to become a home in Yattendon
Thirteen people have objected to plans to change of use from a day nursery in to a home in Yattendon.
There is a planning application in to change the use of the site at Everington Hill.
The nursery is no longer running and the developer wants to extend the building.
Yattendon Parish Council is among the objectors.
“The walnut tree, which is the only tree remaining along the southwest boundary after the recent felling of all other trees along this boundary, must be protected throughout the construction of the development,” it said. “It should be noted that this tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order and there is significant concern that this tree may be affected by the extension.”
It added that it had concerns that the site has no mains water and is served by a borehole.
Frilsham Parish Council also objected saying the extension appears to double the footprint of the existing building.
It said black painted Douglas Fir timber cladding is also a significant change to the character of the existing building within the AONB and cited its concerns about the water supply.
“The site has a private water supply, shared with the neighbouring dwellings,” it said. “This supply is believed to only just be adequate for the existing level of usage. The addition of three en-suite bedrooms in addition to a family bathroom and the potential for increased occupancy is likely to put this water supply under pressure.”
Other concerns centred around the use of the weak bridge over the River Pang and an increase in sewage pollution risks.
The plans are due to go before West Berkshire Council tonight (Wednesday).
