Reading Magistrates' Court: Newbury man sentenced for assault and threats




A MAN has been ordered to abstain from alcohol after being convicted of assaulting a man and threatening a woman.

In the dock at Reading Magistrates' Court on Monday, September 26, was Paul Barlow.

The 32-year-old, who lives in an apartment in Newbury House on Andover Road, Newbury, admitted assaulting Jason Glynn by beating him.

He was also convicted of threatening behaviour and of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards Becky Richards.

All the above offences were committed in Newbury on Thursday, July 7.

Mr Barlow has previous convictions for violence and in 2019 was given a suspended prison sentence for attacking a woman.

For his latest offending he was made subject to a community order and ordered to complete 160 hours of unpaid community work.

In addition, he was ordered to abstain from alcohol for 60 days, which will be monitored with a body-worn electronic device.

Mr Barlow was also required to pay £50 compensation in lieu of costs.

Finally, he was ordered to pay a statutory victim services surcharge of £114.
