Ofsted slip for Aldermaston primary school

The report found that the achievement of pupils, quality of teaching and leadership and management all required improvement following a two day inspection of the school last month.
The Ofsted ranking system runs from outstanding to good, to requires improvement to inadequate and the recent result represents a drop from its previous good inspection in June 2009.
Inspectors said that pupils achievement had been too varied over the past two years, they had not made enough progress from their above average starting points and that pupil’s learning did not always move at a quick enough pace.
They also said that the quality of teaching was improving but had not been consistently good enough to ensure that progress was made in all classes,
However, the report said that leaders were taking positive steps to raise achievement and improve teaching.
Headteacher, Rhodri Bowen, said: "We're pleased that the areas for improvement in the report are things we were already working on. We've seen the positive impact in this year's Year 6 SATs results that we've just received, sadly after the inspectors left!”
“We're looking forward to acting on the helpful feedback in the report to improve further while still holding firmly to our school's core values."
The report highlighted that the behaviour and safety of pupils was good and that their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development was promoted well.
For the school to improve, inspectors said that the quality of teaching needed to ensure that learning proceeded at a quick pace and that teachers marking helped pupils to improve their learning.
The leadership and managment could be improved by ensuring that leaders checked pupils’ progress and achievement.
West Berkshire’s executive for education and district councillor for Aldermaston, Irene Neill, said: "I am confident that current and future actions being taken by the school will see pupils gaining the achievement they need. As the local education authority, we will be giving the school all the support we can."
