Oldbury's deli celebrates first birthday in Newbury this weekend
Family-run business Oldbury’s, owned by husband and wife team Simon and Tina Carr, will celebrate with a cookery demonstration and in-store discounts on Saturday to mark the occasion.
The demonstration will begin at 10.30am, with tastings of products to follow, and recipe cards also available.
“It has been quite a year,” said Mr Carr. “Newbury is a fantastic place to do business and we are so pleased with the reception that we have had, especially over Christmas.
“It demonstrates that people really do value products that are local and that offer an alternative to the mainstream.”
Store manager John Stratford added: “We are going to be celebrating in a way that represents what the business is about.
“It’s not just about special offers. There will be a cooking demonstration followed by a chance to taste and discuss some of Britain’s finest handmade cheese and other local products.”
Cheese is to have a heavy focus in the future of Oldbury’s, Mr Carr said, with the business having teamed up with Greg Brighouse, owner of soon-to-close Weaver’s Walk store Just Add Grapes.
“We want to make sure that we have all the favourites that their regulars have come to expect, and that the people of Newbury will continue to have a strong, independent cheese shop,” said Mr Carr. “Cheese will be a big feature in the business going forward.”
Just Add Grapes will close for the final time on Saturday, January 31.
