It was the first time a steam train had stopped to collect passengers at the station for more than 50 years.
The Cathedrals Express service, run by Steam Dreams, set off from Newbury at 8.40am on an excursion to Cambridge and Ely.
It stopped for water at Theale, and also collected passengers at Reading before travelling through the London boroughs.
Steam engine enthusiasts lined the platforms of each station the Oliver Cromwell passed. The train is of particular interest as it hauled British Railway's last steam train in August 1968, ahead of the steam ban which brought the curtain down on main-line steam engines.
