Olympianist wows Newbury crowds
The ‘Olympianist’, as he is now known, is Anthony Hewitt, a man on a mission to cycle the length of Britain from Lands End to John O'Groats stopping at 26 places to play a selection of piano recitals, all in the name of several charities.
At his afternoon stop in Newbury he did not disappoint as he performed for one hour in the Market Place before about 150 people.
The event formed part of the Newbury Spring Festival opening weekend and festival director, Mark Enyon, said: "We were thrilled to be able to invite Anthony to stop off in Newbury as part of our festival opening weekend.
"The informal style of the outdoor recital in Newbury's historic market square complimented our range of venues in quintessentially English surroundings of churches and historic houses, as well as more traditional concert venues.
"The Olympianist was a wonderful beginning to our varied festival programme in the year of London 2012, and we were delighted that West Berkshire Council was able to support this unique event within our programme.”
