Olympic hopeful thanks Thatcham funeral directors for support
Mr Mears has been selected to compete in the three metre springboard and synchro diving competition, and visited the Broadway funeral directors for the last time before the start of the games.
He popped in to both thank the firm for its financial and moral support but also to show off his new Olympic uniform.
Managing director, Julian Walker, said: "It has been a privilege to support Chris – he is a very special young man whose talents are not restricted to his sport.
"Only one member of the ‘Team Walkers’ has tickets to see his event so we will all be following him on television, but he will be in our hopes and prayers throughout.”
Mr Mears, who went to Garland Junior School, wrote to the funeral directors to ask for help with costs associated with his travel and dietary supplements in 2011.
General manager, Cynthia Townley, added: "Sponsoring a local young person in this our Olympic year has made the whole team here feel directly involved in the games, and with the torch passing the door of our office in Reading, we are all very excited."
Mr Mears visited his former primary school in Burghfield on Monday to speak to the pupils ahead of the games.
