Frosty scenes as snow and ice hit West Berkshire with temperatures below zero for the New Year
Temperatures plummeted to below zero for the first time this winter as the district awoke to some frosty mornings last week.
And Friday afternoon saw a heavy, if somewhat brief, snow shower hit parts of West Berkshire.
The new year has started on a much colder note than 2021 ended on, with temperatures not getting into double figures this week.
A weather warning for ice was in place throughout Friday evening as the rain, sleet and snow fell and temperatures hovered just above freezing.
The icy conditions do, however, offer some lovely opportunities for picturing Mother Nature at her beautiful best.
Our photographer, Phil Cannings, captured these stunning shots across Greenham Common early one morning.
And reader, Dave Paddon, sent us this view across Newbury Racecourse as the sun rose on a frosty morning.
