On your marks for Bayer 10k

Entries coming in as Newbury race just six weeks away

THIS year’s Bayer Newbury 10k run is just six weeks away.

And with entries now coming in steadily race directors Newbury Athletic Club are reminding runners to go to www.bayer.co.uk to find a link to details about the race and the entry form.

A spokeswoman for Newbury AC, Becky Coxhead, said: “We’d like to remind people to get their entries in sooner than later.

“We have categories for every runner, including a team event, and of course, there are two shorter junior races on the day, for five to 11-year-olds and for under 16s.

“It’s a real family day out, so please join in the fun.

“There is great support from all our volunteers, a fantastic atmosphere, medals and a goody bag for all finishers to remember their day.”

The Bayer Newbury 10k, which takes place on Sunday, May 29, is now in its ninth year.

The event will support Naomi House and Jacksplace, hospices for children and young people with life-limiting conditions.

Proceeds from entry fees, which last year topped £13,000, will be split between the hospices and Newbury AC.

Other charities also receive a big boost from the Bayer Newbury 10k, with many runners raising cash for causes close to their hearts.

Starting in Newbury’s Market Place, the 10k race follows roads and pathways around the town.

Juniors race over a traffic-free town centre route.

There are cash prizes and trophies for category winners, as well as runners up prizes in the male and female overall categories.

Bayer race co-ordinator, Wendy Elsey, said: “What’s become clear over the years is that the Bayer Newbury 10k has helped many people to step out of their comfort zone and do something they’ve never done before, and in doing so they are having a lot of fun as well as helping themselves towards a healthier life.

“ As a life sciences company with a strong focus on healthcare, it’s something we wholeheartedly applaud.”
