On your marks for Thatcham Family Fun Day
The Junior Fun Run will see competitors completing a 750m course, with a shorter race for young children, and a mascot race for the town council’s Cyril the Squirrel to match himself against other local characters.
Local sports teams and clubs will be offering demonstrations and free taster sessions, Thatcham Rotary Club will host a classic car show, Cold Ash Brass will provide music, and youngsters and the young-at-heart can enjoy funfair rides.
A street of stalls will provide even more activities and amusements.
The hockey clubhouse bar will be open and there will be a picnic area adjacent to the arena with a selection of caterers.
Last year’s event was cancelled at the last minute because of heavy rain the night before, but the event usually raises thousands of pounds for charity.
Numerous local charities will be fundraising on the day, and all the catering providers and the funfair are donating part of their takings to the main beneficiaries – the Spring Charity Fundraisers and Thatcham mayor Mike Cole’s charities of the year, HeartStart Thatcham and West Berkshire Foodbank.
