Freddie Tulloch displays Ed Pownall’s ‘one in a billion’ spherical egg at The Queen’s Arms, East Garston
BEHOLD… amid tight security, a ‘one in a billion’ spherical egg has gone on display.
Freddie Tulloch, licensee of The Queen’s Arms in East Garston, said: “It made a world exclusive appearance here on Saturday night (August 24).”
The chicken egg was discovered by a woman from Ayr in Scotland, who found it in a box from her local Asda store.
She got in touch with auction house Thomson Roddick Callan.
They agreed to put the egg up for sale and alerted the national media, who ran the story.
Lambourn resident Ed Pownall, a public relations officer for the Tote who also performs as a comedian, confessed he had made inroads into a couple of glasses of red wine when he bid for it out of the blue.
He was astonished to win it for £145.
Meanwhile Mr Tulloch said: “We are normally busy on the Bank Holiday Sunday, but once word spread that the egg was coming to the pub, it became very busy with record pizza sales.
Some people were very impressed by the egg but there were a few not so impressed, who thought it looked just like an egg.
“But, all in all – good fun!”
The chances of finding a spherical egg have been estimated at one in a billion – but, with billions of eggs sold each day, it does happen.
