One person dead after A34/A303 junction crash
ONE person has died after a road traffic collision between a lorry and a car at the junction of the A303 and A34 at Bullington Cross this morning (Thurs).
The junction and slip road between the A303 and A34 is currently closed and is not expected to fully re-open until 4pm, the Highways Agency has said.
Police are advising motorists to avoid the junction.
A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service, Michelle Ullet confirmed that they were called at 8.58am and that the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
They sent a rapid response vehicle, ambulance crew, two ambulance officers and a hazardous area response team and also treated two patients for shock.
A spokesperson for the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, Alice Fewings, confirmed that they extricated one casualty and that four pumps from Basingstoke, Whitchurch, Winchester and Andover attended the scene.
They left the scene at 9.22am.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Police, Lucy Dibdin, said it is believed that the 4x4 had just exited the Westound slip-road when the incident occurred.
Police say the name of the deceased will be released once the next of kin have been informed.
They are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the RPU at Whitchurch station, quoting Operation Iceland.
