One person killed following M4 incident
A multi-vehicle crash on the M4 has caused a fatality
ONE person has been killed following a multi-vehicle crash on the M4 today (Wednesday).
South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman Ngozi Fakeye said the announcement of a fatality had been reported at 1pm following an incident between two HGVs and two cars.
She said no further information was forthcoming at this time as police began an investigation.
Two people have been taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, one of whom is believed to be an elderly male.
Junction 12 of the M4 eastbound was closed at approximately 12.30pm, and all three lanes of the carriageway near Theale have also been closed.
Air ambulance, police and several fire crews attended the scene alongside the rescue support unit.
The Highways Agency have said the motorway will remain shut until approximately 4pm.
Followers of the @Newburytoday Twitter account stuck in traffic near the scene have reported up to 20 emergency vehicles in attendance.
