One-step closer to record deal for Bucklebury youngster

Eloise Weeks, aged 14 of Bucklebury, was one of only five singers to make it through the area finals of the Open Mic UK competition, battling against other singers in the under-16 category in the south-west region.
It was this same competition which saw 12-year-old British singer Birdy rise to fame in 2008, with winners awarded a minimum of £5,000 in investment to help promote and support them in a career in the music industry.
The aspiring pop star impressed judges with her rendition of Emeli Sande’s Breaking The Law, to which she accompanied herself on the piano, with head judge, Ben Price describing her as a “very clear performer with clarity in her voice” and who engages with her audience.
The next time Eloise will grace the Open Mic UK stage will be in front of a 2,500-strong audience and a panel of industry-professional judges including Kiss FM presenter Charlie Hedges, Artful Dodger band member Mark Hill and Geoff Meall from leading agents The Agency Group as well as prestigious DJs Annie Nightingale and Ras Kwame.
The youngster was rendered almost speechless at the prospect of winning the competition, saying only “it’s exciting,” when asked how she felt.
“I haven’t really thought about it,” she said in regards to the extremity of the final. She did, however, reveal plans to play the piano in her final performance, hopeful that it will put her a cut above her competitors.
Proud mother, Gill Weeks, said she was extremely proud of her daughter.
“It was emotionally draining,” said Mrs Weeks. “The standard was really high, but when we heard Eloise sing we weren’t worried anymore. She did really well.”
The national final is being held in the indigo2 at the O2 arena in London on January 19, 2013.
