Social networking sites had been buzzing with rumours that an unnamed taxi driver had refused to allow a young man into his vehicle unless he removed the symbol of remembrance.
It was further claimed that West Berkshire Council, which licences local taxi firms, had discovered the identity of the driver.
But a spokesman for the council yesterday flatly denied the reports, stating no such complaint had been received and that no investigation had taken place.
