Open day held to celebrate school’s move to new site in Yattendon

Montessori school Harriet House, which was based in Ashampstead, has moved to The Walled Garden, Yattendon, to provide increased space for the pupils and an opportunity to extend.
Most of the school has already moved, and the reception class will open in September 2013.
To celebrate the move, the school held an open day in its new grounds to give an opportunity for current and prospective pupils and parents to explore the buildings and grounds, and to see the benefits of the new location.
The school was officially opened by the chairman of the Yattendon Estate, Lord Iliffe.
In its new location, which is just three miles from its former site, the school lies within a five-acre walled garden, which was previously part of the grounds of Frilsham House School.
The headteacher, Harriet Hathaway, said that she had been searching for a larger space in which to provide additional play and sports facilities, which are core activities at the school.
She said: “Based within the Yattendon Estate, which includes not only a growing number of exciting young businesses but also 9,000 acres of farmland and substantial woodland, the school will have access to extensive outdoor space.
“This will benefit the pupils’ understanding of the environment which, combined with the Montessori ethos of a strong emphasis on positive role models, manners and respect for each other, is another key element in Harriet House’s approach.”
