'The ground is still very dry' warns Tadley Fire Station after open fires in Silchester and Wigmore Common
Crews from Tadley Fire Station attended two separate fires yesterday.
The first, a fire in the open at a residential property in Silchester, was caused by a bonfire and the grassfire spread to an area approximately 74m x 50m.
Tadley attended the fire along with crews from Basingstoke Fire Station.
The station warned residents to avoid lighting bonfires because despite the recent rain, the ground is still very dry.
The second fire was a fire in the open on Wigmore Common, which Tadley were alerted to by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire Control.
The fire was approximately 100m x 100m with gorse, trees and fences all alight.
Tadley were assisted by one pump from Basingstoke Fire Station.
