The organisation offers fully or partly retired people a huge variety of groups and activities to help them enjoy life to the full.

There are more than 1,000 members in Newbury, who actively take part in all the club has to offer.

It is a charity, completely run by volunteers to help with various groups and management roles.

The charity says it “draws on the knowledge and experience of its members to teach and learn for themselves. It’s based on the love of learning, laughing and living!”

It has 75 active clubs from art appreciation to Zooming, so there is something for everyone and you can find out more on the website www.newbury.u3asite.uk

Newbury u3a regularly organises trips to theatres, holidays in the UK and abroad, day trips and social events such as wine tasting and quizzes.

If you are on your own, fear not, consider the ‘members on their own’ group which is very popular.

It holds monthly talks at St Nicolas Church Hall with speakers covering many varied topics.

One of the members, Alan, says: “Joining the u3a has changed me.

“I was used to being on my own and was unaware of all the lovely people out there that I could be with, enjoying myself rather than being lonesome and struggling to find things to do at home.

“I am now much more outgoing, and I am making the most of now and looking forward to the next holiday in the UK.”
