Mary Hare School for deaf children achieves ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted Care rating
A West Berkshire school is celebrating achieving an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating after its most recent inspection.
Mary Hare School, the largest school for deaf children and young people in the UK based at Snelsmore Common, has achieved an ‘Outstanding’ score in all areas.
Principal Robin Askew said: “This is a great achievement and reflects the concerted work over many years of all staff, but especially those who work in residential care.
“This result reflects our commitment to maintain Mary Hare as an ambitious and aspirational school, transforming the lives of deaf children and young people.”
A highlight from the inspector’s report said: “Managers and staff have created a highly aspirational culture that helps children to achieve their full potential and improves their life chances.”
A further comment read: “Children enjoy access to a range of social and educational learning opportunities that are planned around the education timetable.”
Mary Hare School supports deaf children and young people from all over the UK, many of whom also board at the school.
Ofsted Care visits are conducted on an annual basis to ensure appropriate standards of residential care are in place for the young people.
