Overgrown patch of land in Burghclere sold for double the expected price by Clive Emson Auctioneers
A small patch of land in Burghclere fetched more than double the guide price when sold at auction.
The 1.39-acre freehold site, which is adjacent to Pembroke House, Earlstone Common, was guided at £70,000 to £75,000 but sold for £151,000 when the auction ended on Wednesday, September 21.
The overgrown rural land was among 163 lots across Southern England listed by Clive Emson Auctioneers in the firm’s September auction.
Mike Marchant, a senior auction appraiser with the firm, said: “The site, which has not been used or managed for some considerable time and is now largely overgrown, attracted 34 bids.
“Village land is always popular with bidders and therefore we anticipated keen interest.
“The virtual hammer came down on a final bid of £151,000, which was £81,000 above the guide price.”
