St Bartholomew’s students celebrate offers from Cambridge University and Oxford University

Four students from a Newbury school have received offers from two of the country's most prestigious universities, writes Fiona Paus.

Year 13 students at St Bartholomew’s School, Georgia Humphreys, Maisie Dixon, Abbie Holland and Quin Humphrey, have all gained offers from Oxford or Cambridge, after “rigorous and highly competitive” selection processes.

Three of the students have been offered places at Cambridge – Georgia to study veterinary medicine, Maisie to study law and Quin to study mathematics. Abbie has been offered a place to study classics at Oxford.

Alison Lane, head of Sixth Form at the school, said she was proud of all pupils for the offers they have received.

“It’s a privilege to work with a cohort of such talented and hardworking students at St Bart’s and every one of these applicants deserves their success,” she added. “Whilst we offer specialised support, mostly these offers are down to the hard work and attitude of the students. We look forward to hearing about their future successes.”

So far, more than 220 students in their final year have applied to higher education courses.

The school has also launched a programme offering guidance to pupils applying for apprenticeships. It is supported by local employers and includes an applicant’s day at Vodafone HQ.

Offers to prospective medical students will be announced later this month.
