Kingslcere paedophile Frederick Doman threatened suicide if imprisoned
A PAEDOPHILE has been spared prison after he threatened to kill himself if jailed.
Frederick Doman was caught with images of children as young as one and two-years-old being forced to engage in sex with an adult male.
In all, his collection of indecent images ran to more than 1,000, and included photos depicting bestiality.
The 31-year-old, of King John Road in Kingsclere, appeared for sentencing at Reading Crown Court on Friday, March 15.
Isabel Delamere, prosecuting, said police raided Doman’s home on January 7, 2021, and seized several electronic devices.
She added that Doman had ‘googled’ incriminating search items.
The court heard that officers found the following on his devices: 454 images in Category A – the most serious, depicting penetrative sexual activity, sexual activity with an animal or sadism – 229 in Category B, 11 prohibited images of children and 259 images of extreme pornography.
The victims in some of the most extreme images were aged just one and two years, the court heard.
All the offences were committed between October 1, 2017, and January 7, 2021.
Doman has no previous convictions.
In interview with officers, when presented with the evidence, he replied “no comment,” said Ms Delamere.
Defence barrister David Dainty offered no mitigation after Judge Hassan Khan immediately indicated he was not going to send Doman to prison.
Judge Khan said: “He has indicated to the probation service he would rather take his own life than go to prison.”
He added: “The usual course would be to impose an immediate sentence of custody.
“But I have to consider whether there is a sufficient prospect of rehabilitation.”
Judge Khan acknowledged that Doman was from a "fairly troubled background" but added that he had shown a "lack of insight" into his offending.
He went on: “I acknowledge – and I’m sure those who are listening are aware – that these are very difficult sentencing exercises.
“Of course, there is a public interest in punishing people (who view such material).
“But it is also in the public interest to ensure that people who commit such offences are not left untreated.”
The court heard that Doman, who has been with a partner for the past six years and whose supporters sat in the public gallery, was deemed a ‘medium’ risk when it came to re-offending.
Judge Khan sentenced Doman to 21 months imprisonment, suspended for two years.
In addition, Doman was ordered to complete up to 40 days of rehabilitation activities and 150 hours of unpaid community work.
Finally, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register and was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years.
