Pair prepared to go to the end of the land for their charities
Twenty-year-olds Ryan Blunden, of the Broadway, and Hayden Highland, who now lives in Reading, are planning to ride from Thatcham town centre to the most westerly point of mainland England, a distance of 275 miles, in just one day.
They will be setting out on Monday, April 22.
Mr Blunden, who has a young daughter, will be raising money for Action for Children, which helps support vulnerable families and neglected youngsters, and Mr Highland will be raising money for Naomi House children’s hospice because his terminally-ill younger sister uses the service.
Mr Blunden said: “I wanted to support a charity that was not corporate or huge. I want the money I raise to make a difference.
“I have been cycling to and from work so I think the training is going OK. I have started cycling indoors as well.”
Although he thought that cycling through the night was going to be a bit risky, he said he was more worried about making sure they raised plenty of money.
“I’m really excited about it, but I'm more worried about raising the money. I want to know that we have supported the charities by raising quite a bit of money.”
The pair are hoping to raise £1,000, to be split equally between the charities.
