Pancake race set for go ahead today (Tues)
The fun-filled event, which sees crowds jam the street to watch teams of four flip pancakes across Market Place, is scheduled to begin at noon, providing snow flurries do not batter the town.
The Met Office is predicting light snow for tomorrow morning but this drizzle is expected to stop by the time the race is scheduled to start.
Newbury Town Council's Civic Organiser, Joyce Lewis, said there would be a meeting tomorrow morning to see if the event would take place saying: "We would really like it to go ahead if possible."
The event, arranged by Soroptomist International Newbury and District, will see
sponsoring the Pancake Champions award with Pancake Tosser of the Year sponsored by Gecko Communications and Best Dressed Team by Henwick Properties.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Duchess of Kent House Hospice, Reading.
Last year's winning team was from Newbury Hall International School, Enborne Road, Newbury, with Eddie, the Eddie Catz cat, named Top Tosser while armour clad legal firm Thomas Eggar won Best Dressed Team for their Ye Oldy World appearance.
