Pangbourne Rotary Club organises second match against Afghan refugees




Pangbourne Rotary Club organised a second successful football match between Afghan refugees being housed locally and club members.

The Pangbourne Development XI faced off against the Afghan All-Stars at Pangbourne Recreation Ground earlier this month.

This is the second match between the two sides, with their first meeting on January 30 ending in a 3-3 draw.

The latest match, on a bright and sunny day, saw Pangbourne take the victory in a high-scoring game, beating the Afghan All-Stars 7-5.

A group of Afghan children were also present to support the All-Stars and have their own kick about on the playing field.

Pangbourne Rotary Club member Brian Davies said: “To see the joy, gratitude and fun of the Afghan community – particularly from the youngsters – was wonderful.”
